Meeeeh I misunderstood and thought it might be a YA book For a change It was really childish, although Drake did her best to move to the Harry Potter groove Can you tell that I didn t like that it was compared to the Harry Potter series on the cover The idea of the summer camp was cute and all, but crystals and different planes, etc lost me a little bit By the end I was just forcing my way through it Again, maybe for a certain age group And if you classify it as YA, it would have to be really young YA, in my opinion It was a weird contrast between the kids, who were supposed to be around 11 , and the adult thoughts situations they were working through It wasn t cohesive, if that makes sense Either they should have acted childishly, or they should have been older, but it didn t work the way it was Trent was easily the most likeable character, Henry was sweet, and Jason, Ting, and Bailey were a strange mix of careful, boring adult Babysitter s Club I would also have liked to read about Rich and Stefan Overall, the characters just didn t work And I judge it this harshly because I do think that kids books can be good, even for grown ups who mysteriously find themselves in the wrong section of the library The Nightmare Academy series by Dean Lorey is a perfect example of this It takes itself a lot less seriously, and is actually funnier and fantastical I think I ll take a pass on the rest of the series.

Just pure entertainment kids learning they have magic in them some adults trying to teach them evil ones with magic trying to kill them fun types of magic and situations come into play very easy to get sucked into the book where that is all you are thinking about Apparently Emily Drake had written these books over the last few years I found this one as Volume 1, which contains her first two books of the 4 book series the second volume, dealing with the last 2 books comes out in October.

I really wanted to like this, but I couldn t even finish it I started reading it expecting magic and instead read 300 something pages about a kid going to summer camp Maybe it got better after that, but I could not stay interested enough to find out.

Not quite the next Harry Potter series, but still a fun read.
